Today is Daddy's 80th birthday and we all just got home from a big celebration reunion with all my cousins deep in Cajun country, Louisiana.
We stayed at the L'Acadie Inn (http://www.hotboudin.com/), ate at DI's Cajun Lounge (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWrYS1oCscI) and listened to the music jam at Savoy's (pronounced Sawv-wah)Music Center on Saturday morning. Here is a great video to give you a sample of the music and people of half of my roots ---

And then we ate -- hot boudin, chicken sauce picant, grilled catfish, jambalaya, crawfish etouffee, brisket, and meat pies. Waaay too much incredible food!
I really loved reconnecting with the cousins and aunts and uncles of my youth! Lots of memories --- Christmas with a silver aluminum tree and rotating colored lighting at Aunt Nelma's, MawMaw Pearl's house at 111 Prairie Street with the chickens and fig trees in the back yard and walking to buy grape Nehi sodas at the gas station, T Roy using bacon at the end of a stick to catch crawfish in a mud puddle, Halloween when we children could run around in the dark to our hearts delight, firework poppers on the sidewalk, the Christmas gift of two live (freshly captured in the Lousiana woods) flying squirrels that were expected to take up new residence with us in North Dakota (!), being awakened at my grandmothers house with hot, strong coffee with lots of milk and sugar, the goats in GrandMaw Tia's front yard, and everyone for miles around being a relative.
A rich, strong heritage to be proud of! Happy birthday, Dad!
