I have decided that I love watching all the non-mainstream sports as they stream from London. So far I've watched sailing (I don't really get it), judo, weightlifting, badminton, table tennis, archery, water polo on live stream. Now, it's back to mainstream swimming, diving and gymnastics. After working at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, this spectacle will never quite be the same. Somehow, knowing what goes on behind the scenes removes a smidgen of the "magic"......
This year, I've had great fun traveling to Yellowstone National Park in February, to Pensacola in March and to Madison, Wisconsin in July. Yellowstone reminded me how much fun time alone in a stunning environment can be - no "what do you want to do? I don't care, what do you want to do?" to aggravate me. I could go out to see the wolves as many times as I want, tromp through pristine snow to pure blue geyser pools every day, eat when and where I cared to. Yes, there was that one ten minute period of wishing there were a special someone with whom to share my freedom, but on the whole, an it was absolutely wonderful!
Pensacola and Wisconsin reminded me how much fun family can be! Mom and Dad and Cindy and Steve and Kurt and Mary Beth and Brenda -- all smart as whips and funny as hell!
Antarctica and Easter Island are closing in. Only 122 days until departure. I can't believe it!
Photos of all my travels (domestic and international) can be seen at --
http://jane-thejourneyisthereward.tumblr,com. Check it out. Scroll through to see Bhutan, Germany, Nepal, Bangkok, Turkey, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Louisiana, Texas, Georgia, Washington DC, New York, the list goes on and on. I am indeed a very lucky gal!!
Right now, I'm floating in my pool, catching up on reading (It Worked For Me, China Airborne, Maphead, Swiss Watching, American Dervish, Packing for Mars, Elizabeth The Queen, The End of Normal, Lets Pretend This Never Happened, Monday Mornings...all those and more just this year!) Thank goodness for Kindle!
Life is good.
Go USA!
